The Scoop

July 18th 2008 01:23
I’m a twenty-something living in a suburb of Philadelphia and have been working in the city as an interior designer for several years. I really enjoy what I do for a living, but one of my passions has always been cooking. I grew up with a stay-at-home mom who is a top notch cook and I like to think some of that rubbed off on me too. She was always, and still is, making fun snacks, fantastic dinners, yummy cookies, and she is the queen of left over soup. Believe it or not, my mom can make an amazing soup out of last night’s spaghetti dinner, and in my opinion, that’s talent.

So the kitchen is one of my favorite rooms to spend time in and I love every activity I do there from cooking dinner or baking Christmas cookies to making a spread of appetizers for our monthly game night. Well, almost every activity, doing the dishes I could live without. I get excited when I find new recipes to try or I hear about a new ingredient or a different way to cook something. Ask anyone who knows me and they’ll tell you I’m still talking about the magical day when I found pan searing flour at Wegman’s, and that was over three years ago!

But I went to school to be an interior designer, not a chef, so sadly, being really, really, ridiculously good at making a mean Pecan Puff doesn’t exactly pay the bills. So basically I’m just looking to share any fantastic recipes I happen to come by, food stories relevant to my life, and hopefully some knowledge I garner along the way.

Oh and something else you should know about me is I’m not a big believer in diets. And when I say diets I mean the “I read this guy’s book…saw her on Dr. Phil…heard about it from a friend…I’m never eating food that’s red again” kind of diet. I do believe in being smart about what you put in your body, getting exercise, and staying away from the latest and greatest lose weight fast gimmick. I don’t think having a piece of chocolate and glass of wine from time to time will kill you, actually, I think it might do some good. So grab a glass of Merlot, a piece of silky dark chocolate, and read on my friend!
